Frequently asked questions

The things that most often look like faults and are not, with what is actually happening in each case.

Most of what follows is working as designed. Knowing which design usually answers the question faster than a support message would.

I opened my own share link and I can see less than usual

That is the link working correctly. Access is resolved from the link first and from your signed-in account second, so a share link shows you the recipient's view even when you are the owner.

Nothing has changed about your account. Open the timetable from your dashboard, or remove the token from the address, and your own access is back.

It is also the only honest way to check what you are about to send someone.

Download .fet did nothing except show me a list

The project is checked before the file is produced. If something would stop FET opening the file — no working days, no hours, an activity naming a teacher who is not in the teacher list — the download is held and the list tells you what to fix.

Fix those and download again. If instead you saw a list with a Download anyway button, the file is fine and the notes are advisory.

See Downloading back to FET.

My CSV import created a pile of flat student groups

The activities file was imported before the students file.

When an activity names a student set that does not exist yet, the set is created flat — and it is never upgraded to a proper year, group and subgroup structure afterwards. Import students first and the hierarchy arrives correctly.

The fix now is to delete the flat groups and redo the import in the right order.

I have hit a limit, but my other timetable is nearly empty

Activities, private share links and backups are counted per timetable, not across your account. Spare room in one timetable does not help another.

Only the number of timetables you own is an account-level limit. See Plans and limits.

My import was refused for being too big — why not import what fits?

Because a timetable that is missing part of itself is worse than one that was never imported. It looks finished, and the file you download afterwards would no longer match the file you uploaded.

So an over-cap import is refused whole, before anything is written — your existing timetable is untouched — and you are told how many activities the file holds against how many your plan allows. This works the same way for .fet projects and for the CSV importers.

Restoring a backup is deliberately exempt: it can only give back data that was already in that timetable, so it is never refused for size.

I emailed the link to all my teachers — does each of them see only their own?

Yes. The send makes one link for each teacher, scoped to that teacher alone. A teacher who opens their link sees their own timetable. They do not see the rest of the school.

You can withdraw one teacher's link on its own. The other teachers keep theirs.

A link works for anyone who holds it. Treat it like a password: a teacher who forwards their link gives away their own view.

Why does my split lesson count as one activity?

Because it is one lesson. The activity limit counts teaching units, not rows, so splitting a lesson into components does not multiply what it costs you.

Will I be charged again automatically?

No. Payments are one-off purchases of a period of access — there is no recurring charge and nothing to cancel. When the period ends it ends, and you are reminded beforehand so renewing is your decision.

I uploaded a .fet and my timetable is completely different

That is what the upload does — the menu row says replaces everything. A FET project is internally consistent, so it is imported wholesale rather than merged.

If it was a mistake, restore the backup taken before it, or the one you took yourself. See Backups.

The import is taking a long time

A school project is tens of thousands of records, so it is read in batches with a progress report rather than in one request. It is also resumable, so a slow network does not send you back to the beginning.

A file that is genuinely unreadable is rejected before anything is cleared, so a long import is a large project, not a broken one.

I changed something in the demo and it vanished

The demo discards every change when the page reloads. It is a sample timetable that resets for each visitor, so you can try anything in it without consequences. Nothing you do there is saved, and nothing carries over into a real timetable.

Someone says my link no longer works

Check whether the link was rotated or disabled. Rotate secret issues a new address and stops the old one immediately, which is exactly what you want after a leak — but anyone still holding the previous address needs the new one.

A link with its Enabled box cleared behaves the same way until you switch it back on.

Will my timetables be deleted?

Not by anything you have not asked for, but the free plan does keep a timetable for a set period rather than indefinitely, counted from the last time you edited it. A timetable you are working in never approaches that; one you have not touched in months does, and editing it starts the period again. A timetable close to the end says so on its card, and the rule is stated above your list whenever it applies to you. Plans and limits explains the counting; the plans page carries the current period.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, by asking through the contact form — there is no self-service button.

Deletion is thorough: timetables, subscriptions, payment records, print presets, share links and backups all go. Download anything you want to keep first.
