Substitutions

Record a cover teacher, a room change or a cancellation, and show it to everyone who opens the timetable that day.

A substitution records that something about one lesson changed on one date: a different teacher is covering it, it has moved to another room, or it is not happening at all. Everyone who opens the timetable for that date sees the change in place, with the original struck through, so nobody has to cross-check a separate notice.

What you can record

  • A cover teacher — the lesson runs, someone else takes it.
  • A room change — same lesson, different room.
  • A cancellation — the lesson is not happening.

Each one is tied to a real date, not to the weekly pattern. A substitution on one Tuesday does not touch any other Tuesday.

The substitutions board for a date: who is away, which lessons it reaches, and who is taking each one. A lesson nobody has picked up yet says so rather than looking finished.

Where substitutions appear

Once saved, a substitution shows up everywhere that date is on screen:

  1. The Substitutions panel, which lists what is changing and when.
  2. The dated print layouts, where the covered lesson is struck through and the replacement is printed beside it.
  3. Any shared link whose scope includes the lesson.

A shared link that is scoped to particular teachers or groups hides lessons outside that scope — including covered ones. That is deliberate: the link's scope decides what its holder may see, and a substitution does not widen it.

Reading a covered lesson

A covered lesson keeps its original text visible with a line through it, and shows the replacement next to it. Nothing is deleted, so it stays obvious what changed, not merely what the situation is now.

Cancellations are dimmed as well as struck through, because a cancelled lesson and a covered one need to be tellable apart at a glance from across a corridor.
